It started with a quiz of which I knew nothing. We had to guess (or know) the names and the architects of a collection of the best known, greatest housing architecture. These houses, this architecture felt so familiar, too familiar, maybe, because I had seen it, maybe because it was a set of the most influential architecture of the last century. Maybe I, we don't and can't realize for how many architects, architectural creations these houses are the precedents.
Project 1, Precedents
Split up into groups (six of us in my, group 8) we were allocated one of the houses. Group 8 would have to do a precedent study of The Eames House. We would start with the orthographic drawings, the research on different aspects of the house and finish this project with a blog on The Eames House, a panel and a verbal presentation about it. It seemed simple, straight forward. It took us about half an hour to realize it would not be. The printing of the drawings turned out to be the first challenge.
Drawings, Visual Representation
I had to draw the ground floor plan. The A1 tracing paper sheet would become more and more precious and cared for with every line drawn on it, with every hour spent leaning over it. It took a lot of patience, mistakes made and little tips, tricks and theory from the tutors given in the right time. It took understanding of the house, imagining it in different ways, analysis.

We would later render our drawings and add sketches to those, for a clear and full representation of the house, exterior and interior, on the panel and in the blog. As well as rendering some of our groups drawings I did a 15 minute sketch of the interior.
Group Work, Teamwork
Baring in mind that this was our first architectural project and the first project done in groups, we did an excellent job of keeping the team spirit alive and a satisfactory job of splitting of the work and doing equal amounts of it. We did have a few hick ups, misunderstandings, but we had the job done. In some way this project has been more about learning to work in groups, the ways to split up the workload and to manage it being done in timely manner, the need of leadership, and the role of me, the amount of individuality, how and how much of it can be expressed when working in a group.

Research & Blog
I had to do my research on the spaces within the building, and it's lighting and spatial qualities. I found it extremely interesting and engaging, the analysis. To start of by seeking clues about a single, particular aspect of the design, think about what are they and why. Then think about and capture the importances of another aspect the house, and then find yourself noticing how all of this ties together. How mutual the relationship between everything, really, can be. The façade of the house responds to the structure and the interior of it, one volume of the house mirrors the other in their spatial layout, the house fits in and represents its context in site, and, most importantly, it timidly reveals what the designers and the owners of the house are. The seemingly simple design is nothing less than minimalistic, extremely optimal, and because of that- invisibly complex. The uniqueness of this house is the balance between its, and that, who inhabits it character. The Case Study 8#, seeking the new model of living, the post-war home, with post-war materials and thinking, has resulted in a rare coexistence of it and its inhabitant, each not suppressing the other.
