The new groups have been assigned and project 2 can begin. Together with couple of other groups, we set of to study the size and proportions of a human body in different poses in a rather unusual way. We outline each other on a huge sheet of paper. We focused on everybody being “the model” and doing an unique pose, to get the large differences of our sizes and a set of position, which largely vary in their consumption of the space. This resulted in a good laugh. There was a level of trust to be sustained, between the drawer and the drawn. Later we measured each of our heights and got the average of those values. We had some of the tallest guys and the shortest girls, the average height of our groups, and the whole year, effectively, was 174 cm. We moved on to measuring the length of our strokes, the size of our feet and the distance between to persons, at which they feel comfortable.
After that session of laughter and observing each other, we returned to our groups and brainstorming begun. Some ideas emerged immediately, we tried to build on those but did not get to far with that. The final idea of ours came late in the day, and by the end of the studio session we were not entirely sure if this was The idea, but we stuck with it. It is even harder to come up with something, create something, more or less from a scratch, in a group. To do this effectively, the hardest part is communicating the very raw and young idea to others. When you cannot obtain a clear image of an idea just yet, it's nearly impossible to ”show” it to others.
